If moving abroad is too much of a leap for you and you don’t live in a big city with a lot of immigrants who study English, there are still opportunities to teach English as a second language. If you just have an internet connection, a headset, and maybe a webcam (and who doesn’t, these days), then you can teach English online.
There are literally millions of people around the world who are in a rush to learn what has become the international language, and many of them are looking for teachers online. You can tap into this market and make good money from the comfort of your home, but it can be tricky.
Fortunately, a guy name John Buchanan has written an ebook that makes it a lot easier.
I bought John’s ebook and used the info in it, and I highly recommend it. These days I’ve gone on to do other things and I’m not teaching online very much, but back when I got started teaching online this book really helped me out a lot. He’s also really generous with personal support and will help you out if you have questions.
I recently revisited the website and I was impressed that he’s gotten endorsements from some big names in the industry, like Steve Ford. Impressed but not surprised, because the ebook package is really helpful- I’d even say you shouldn’t venture into the world of teaching English online without getting this book.
In addition to the ebook you get a bunch of other stuff too, including a couple of videos, some excel spreadsheets to keep you organized, a motivational 21-day plan, plus the great support from John himself. If you’re at all interested in this great way to make money online- head over to his website right now!
Here are some short excerpts from the website, but you should head over there and read it all:

All you need is a computer, a decent Internet connection, a microphone, some speakers, and an instant messaging program like Skype (or even Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or Google Talk).
Enjoy the freedom of being your own boss. Keep all of the profits for yourself and your family.

An American living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam since 2001. vninfoblog at yahoo dot com.
Hello,
first of all, I have to say that your blog is one of my favourite blogs at all. It's so great to read posts about Vietnam written by you. Thanks.
But I'm writing to you because I have a question. Or maybe two, or maybe even three questions.
I live in Poland, Gdansk and I'm 16. I'm a big fan of Vietnam, I really love this country and my dream is to go there for few years or longer. And here come my questions:
1. What I have to do here in Poland to be prepared as well as possible for my future dream about Vietnam? Could you recommend me some books, articles or movies about this country?
2. What about education here in Poland? Do I need degrees or something like that to work in Vietnam? Because I think degree for example in journalism or polish language won't help me in Vietnam. That's my opinion. What about Vietnamese? Do I have to learn that language?
Ok, that's enough for now. Thanks for attention!
Sorry for mistakes.
1. there are books, online articles, blogs so you learn about vietnam. Movies, hmm, most of them (i'm talking about english speaking ones; u can't find vietnamese speaking in Poland i'm sure) are war stories so unless u really want to. But on that note, there are quite a lot american made movies about vietnam. "daughter of danang" is freely available online legally.
2. i'm afraid polish language is not desired. Only english will do. russian is an dying language in vietnam also.
3. no, u don't need to learn vietnamese.
Thanks for answers.
I know that polish language is not desired. What I'm asking for is – do I HAVE TO take a degree in sth here in Poland to get a job in Vietnam. Surely it's useful but is it the only way to get a job?
What about teaching english language by a polish guy ? I'm talkin about private lessons.
thanks.
Look around this blog. to help u start off:

I am 50 years old and have visited Vietnam in 2006, 2007 and 2008.I have Vietnamese friends in Hue, Nha Trang and Saigon.I desperately want to give up everything here in Ausralia and live for some time in Vietnam. Is teaching English a way of earning enough income to live well in Vietnam. Can teaching English provide for a long term future there ?
Hi Mat,

Hi,
Regarding teaching English in Vietnam. I am the Country Manager Vietnam for an Australian based company with English language schools and private schools throughout Vietnam. I hire many native English speaking teachers and can tell you directly that you can make a very good living in Vietnam teaching English. For example, we provide a very good guaranteed salary, housing allowance, medical insurance, etc. English teachers are in strong demand in Vietnam and the compensation packages offered vary but generally are very good.
